Seeking some mentorship to level up

Hi, everyone. I would like to be a web developer. I have a hodge podge of IT related work experience including a few tech support roles and basic sysadmin. I have also over the past 10+yrs did some programming with Node/JavaScript, Rails and Python (flask) but very much on/off. So, in one sense, I wouldn’t consider myself a beginner as I have some knowledge of programming languages and decent general IT, cloud, software lifecycle knowledge but also don’t really know where to place myself as I’ve moved from one thing to another for so long. I was hoping for some direction maybe from someone who was in a similar position. What would it take to become a developer? Currently, I have a few very basic ‘portfolio’ projects but the complexity that I’ve seen in some portfolios really intimidates me and given my limited free time I don’t think I’ll get there. I’m trying to gauge how far off I am on this and if I might be realistically too far away. Thank you
